Recently, a produce farm approached Hillphoenix for help implementing a sustainable CO2 refrigeration system using refurbished racks and gas coolers.

This application required a dependable solution to achieve precise temperatures and maintain hygienic standards. The project was complicated by the fact that the racks and gas coolers were originally designed for a different application and end-user.

Through consistent communication and careful collaboration, Hillphoenix enabled the end-user to achieve their sustainability goals using the refurbished racks and coolers. The equipment for this project included:

  • Five chillers with 500-gpm capacity to cool water from 50°F to 38°F
  • Four chillers with 150-gpm capacity to cool water from 35.3°F to 34°F
  • Hygienic Critical Process Air (CPA) units for processing and storage areas
  • 620-ton 22°F SST Transcritical CO2 System
  • Two fully enclosed mechanical centers with adiabatic gas cooling and 90-bar stainless steel pipes
